Tokyo?

I'm curious how a SLPS gets organized. I haven't been to one, but read about them on Lightstalkers.
What's involved in setting up a new city?

Permalink Reply by Casey Kelbaugh on July 5, 2008 at 11:14am: This exactly how they get started. I have actually been corresponding with an old friend about a Tokyo launch recently. I lived there for a year and would really like to see it happen, but we have very little infrastructure!
We are planning to do a bunch of launches through the Middle East and Asia and that would be the last stop. I'm guessing this would be sometime in late February. We will need to start building a production team. Let us know if you would like to be involved. The most difficult things to find are usually the location and local funding. Let us know if you would like to get involved, because we definitely intend to come!; ▶ Reply to This

They are connected somehow with a foreign-run architecture firm who does talks called Pecha-Kucha Night.

I used to actually live in Tokyo and it's totally on our list. We are hoping to launch in a bunch of Asian cities in the Spring of 2009. Are you based there? One of our issues with Tokyo is an almost complete lack of infrastructure. As the home base of "Pecha Kucha," which is an event with some similarities, we know it will also be a challenge to distinguish ourselves.
Our other main concern is funding. We are really looking to find local sponsorship to cover our travel and production costs. Do you think this would be a possibility?

So we are close to completing a Manual on "How to Start a Slideluck Potshow." It should be done by early September. We are really interested in coming to Asia, Tokyo in particular. Someone from Phat Photo just came to the office because they want to do a story about it as well! In any case, let's start thinking about where and how we can do this over the fall/winter. Any ideas on locations or funding?
