Arbitrary Art Grants are for everyone. By making the selection process random, we receive entries from kids, crazy people, professional artists and the occasional homeless person. With that kind of demographic, we are bound to get a bit of everything, some amazing and well crafted, some shoddy and ill conceived. Some of my favorites are made by what some call "non-artists" and some of my least favorite are made by serious working professionals. There is just no telling. But the joy in watching these applications come in is that no two are every alike, and an absurd premise can breed great acts of creativity.
For the Arbitrary Art Grant in Sculpture, it was miniature furniture made out of meat, creatures with artichoke heads and green bean hair, stacked orange juice contains perfectly aligned to the shelves behind.
For the Arbitrary Art Grant in Performance, it was the chants of the protesters "NRA not the NEA" and "No more Butoh." It was Ben Beres million word protest sign, and Saskia Delores handing out ear plugs.
Our Arbitrary Art Grant in Dance is destine for equal surprise and equal greatness. I just casually checked out Youtube today to see if anyone had posted anything yet, and though I know most people will wait until the final hour, someone did get their act together and posted the first entry:

Will they win? That is for some crazy random act to decide, but boy did they step up to the plate and swing. And prize or no prize, they hit it right out of the park. We look forward to your submission and hope you find the beauty in the action, not in the appraisal.
