SUBMISSION GUIDELINES FOR SLIDELUCK POTSHOW NOLA:Thank you for your interest in showing work at SLIDELUCK POTSHOW New Orleans!
Slideshow presentations are a maximum of 5 minutes each, but most are much shorter, and we recommend between 15-40 images. We accept work in digital format only. We encourage all types of media that can be presented within this framework, be it painting, sculpture, or installation art. However, they must be comprised mainly of still images - straight film or video is discouraged, although multimedia pieces using video as punctuation can be submitted. When presenting photographs, there are many ways to go about it. We strongly encourage you to consider our theme (there's not theme for this show actually): inclusion/exclusion and the role it plays in contemporary photography; to create narratives, combine live music, speaking, or even performing with images. We want to see good work, but it need not be safe. Show us work in progress, outtakes from a job, or if that makes you uneasy, show us your absolute finest work - because we like that too.
All submissions for SLPS New Orleans must be received by Monday, November 2nd, 2009.Because of the overwhelming number of submissions we receive, we now curate the slideshows to keep it at a maximum of 90 minutes. We will mainly be judging the submissions on range and diversity of subject matter. Our intent is to be inclusive and to provide as many people the possibility for expression as possible, and if we are unable to include your work for the show you originally submitted, we will always keep your work in mind for future shows. This being said, try to be cognizant of your audience and please exercise discipline in your editing process!

Apendix 1: PREPARING MUSIC:
All songs must be MP3s or they will not play all the way through in the exported movies. You can find out what kind of Audio file a song is by dropping it into iTunes, highlighting it and going to File - Get Info (or pressing Apple I) to get Information. If you discover that it is an AAC audio file or something else, you can convert it in iTunes.
For iTunes 7:
1. First go to your preferences in iTunes - Preferences (or Apple Comma).
2. Under the Advanced Tab at the Top, choose Importing (from the General - Importing - Burning Options).
3. Under the drop down menu, Import Using: Choose MP3 encoder. Click OK and close the preferences.
4. Then to convert the song to an MP3, Control Click on the song, and in the drop down menu, you should see the option to convert the selection to MP3. This will take a few seconds, and it will appear as a copy of the song in the library. We generally delete the old one to avoid confusion later.
5. Put all the MP3s from contributors in one easily accessible playlist in iTunes. We like to call it "!SLPS," and then it appears at the top of the list in iPhoto later.
For iTunes 8:
1. Go to your preferences in iTunes - Preferences (or Apple Comma)
2. Under the General tab, click import settings (which is next to the "when you insert a CD" information)

If a music file is M4A format:
There is a lot of free software that can convert M4A to MP3. One of them is called Switch and can be downloaded here:
http://www.nch.com.au/switch/plus.html It is very easy to use: simply drop your music file into it, and choose the output folder and choose the MP3 from the drop down menu, then click convert. It will appear in the folder of your choice.
