SLIDELUCK POTSHOW

I'm curious how a SLPS gets organized. I haven't been to one, but read about them on Lightstalkers.
What's involved in setting up a new city?

This exactly how they get started. I have actually been corresponding with an old friend about a Tokyo launch recently. I lived there for a year and would really like to see it happen, but we have very little infrastructure!
We are planning to do a bunch of launches through the Middle East and Asia and that would be the last stop. I'm guessing this would be sometime in late February. We will need to start building a production team. Let us know if you would like to be involved. The most difficult things to find are usually the location and local funding. Let us know if you would like to get involved, because we definitely intend to come!

Casey,
I would be happy to help with a Tokyo show. I have a good friend over there that would be able to help as well. Later this fall, here in New York, I have an exhibition going up--photographs of Tokyo architecture related to fashion.

As a people from Tokyo(now I live in NY), location hunting might be difficult....like size of NY would be very difficult to find....most photo studios and galleries are way small compare to NY's...
If I will be in Tokyo near future, I'd love to help you in some way....(no plan going back there yet)

A lot of these kinds of events take place in Roppongi at a place called SuperDeluxe (http://www.super-deluxe.com/about/)

They are connected somehow with a foreign-run architecture firm who does talks called Pecha-Kucha Night.

I have no idea what their rates are like, but it would be an obvious place to check out.

Hey Jim,
Thought I had responded to your post already!
I used to actually live in Tokyo and it's totally on our list. We are hoping to launch in a bunch of Asian cities in the Spring of 2009. Are you based there? One of our issues with Tokyo is an almost complete lack of infrastructure. As the home base of "Pecha Kucha," which is an event with some similarities, we know it will also be a challenge to distinguish ourselves.
Our other main concern is funding. We are really looking to find local sponsorship to cover our travel and production costs. Do you think this would be a possibility?
Thanks for your query! We would like to make this happen.
Best,
Casey
